Description of Pramlintide Acetate

Pramlintide AcetatePramlintide acetate injection is a type of antihyperglycemic drug for use in patients with diabetes treated with insulin. Pramlintide is a synthetic analog of human amylin, a naturally occurring neuroendocrine hormone synthesized by pancreatic beta cells that contributes to glucose control during the postprandial period. Pramlintide is provided as an acetate salt of the synthetic 37-amino acid polypeptide, which differs in amino acid sequence from human amylin by replacement with proline at positions 25 (alanine), 28 (serine), and 29 (serine).
Molecular Formula:      C171H267N51O53S2
CAS No.      196078-30-5
Clinical studies showed that pramlintide acetate injection before a meal helps patients lower their blood glucose afterward, leading to less fluctuation during the day and better long-term glucose control (A1C) compared to patients taking insulin alone. On average, study participants treated with pramlintide acetate used less mealtime insulin than those using insulin alone—and also experienced weight loss.
