Enoxaparin is a low molecular weight heparin under the trade name Lovenox, Clexane Xaparin and marketed, among other things. Enoxaparin is manufactured by Sanofi and is derived from the intestinal mucosa of pigs.
Enoxaparin binds to and accelerates the activity of antithrombin III. By the activation of antithrombin III, enoxaparin, preferably potentiated the inhibition of coagulation factors Xa and IIa. The anticoagulant effect of enoxaparin their ability to inhibit factor Xa are correlated. It is an anticoagulant used for prevention and treatment of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, and is given as a subcutaneous injection (by a doctor or the patient). Its use in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) continues to develop.
Factor Xa catalyzes the conversion of prothrombin to thrombin, so enoxaparin leads the inhibition of this process to a decreased thrombin and ultimately the prevention of fibrin clot formation.
