A Simple Description of Ultra-fine Modified Precipitated Barium Sulfate for General Use

Ultra-fine Modified Precipitated Barium Sulfate for General UseUltra-fine modified precipitated barium sulfate for general use is a type of white powder without any taste. Its specific gravity is 4.20.Is the highest of the minerals. It is chemically inert and insoluble in water, Alcohol,or many other solvents, except hot concentrated sulfuric acid.

Recently, the preparation of barium sulfate, BaSO4, has received considerable attention for its applications in such areas as ceramics, pigments and fillers for polymers. The method of preparing a powder and processing a controlled morphology is an important problem in material science. In order to inhibit crystallization process and to modify the morphology of crystalline product, many different methods have been reported for synthesis of BaSO4  including the addition of different additives and microemulsions. (Poly)phosphonate- and polycarboxylate-type additives are commonly applied to retard the unwanted deposition of inorganic ormineral salts. Such inhibitors have the ability to form a sufficient number of coordinative bonds with cations on the mineral surface. In general, the reaction media was mainly aqueous solution and the addition of additives can cause a significant change in morphology, but the obtained BaSO4 crystals in size are generally ordered on the micron scale rather than the nanometer scale. Water-in-oil (w/o) microemulsions or reverse micelle have been used for the synthesis of inorganic nanoparticles of metal sulfate, barium chromate. The principal reason for using microemulsions is that the particle size and the corresponding morphology can be well controlled by varying the molar ratio of water to surfactant. However, the salt amount solubilized in conventional microemulsions is relatively low; it is not advantageous to get a high product yield.
