Introduction of Sorbitol Liquid and Powder

Sorbitol Liquid and Powder

Sorbitol liquid and powder is mainly synthesized from glucose. It is a clear colorless or  faintly yellow syrupy liquid and used for various purposes. Sorbitol liquid and powder contain lyophilic property and do not dissolve in common organic solvents except being sparingly soluble in acetic acid, methyl and ethyl alcohol. Chemically, it is a Hexahydric alcohol and is known as DGlucitol.

Sorbitol, also known as glucitol, is a sugar alcohol that the human body metabolizes slowly. It can be obtained by reduction of glucose, changing the aldehyde group to a hydroxyl group. Sorbitol is found in apples, pears, peaches, and prunes. It is synthesized by sorbitol-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, and converted to fructose by succinate dehydrogenase and sorbitol dehydrogenase. Succinate dehydrogenase is an enzyme complex that participates in the citric acid cycle.
