A Very Simple Description of Super Oxide Dismutase

Super oxide dismasts(SOD)-ox blood extract Superoxide dismutase (SOD) is an important antioxidant role of the main enzyme in the elimination of its catalytic disproportionation of oxygen and hydrogen peroxide toxic superoxide anion radical (O2 -). Three superoxide dismutase isoenzymes have been identified in mammalian cells, copper and zinc containing superoxide dismutase (Cu / Zn superoxide dismutase, SOD1), the dimer is expressed in the cytoplasm; containing manganese superoxide dismutase enzyme (manganese superoxide dismutase (SOD), start the SOD2), expressed as a tetramer in the mitochondria; and tetramer extracellular superoxide dismutase (EC superoxide dismutase of SOD3). Is the reason about 20% of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig's disease gene mutation in Cu / Zn SOD.
