History of Diacetone alcohol

Diacetone alcohol was founded discovered by Heintz, its preparation entails the Ba(OH)2-catalyzed condensation of two molecules of acetone . It undergoes dehydration to give the α,β-unsaturated ketone, mesityl oxide: Hydrogenation of mesityl oxide gives the industrial solvent, methyl isobutyl ketone .

 Diacetone alcohol  can be used in cellulose ester paint, especially the type of brushing, it produces a brilliant gloss and hard film, and in its lack of odor is desirable. It is also used to paint thinner, paint, wood stains, wood preservatives and printing paste; in the paper and textile coating composition; permanent marker; artificial silk and leather, imitation gold leaf; celluloid cement; as in animal tissues preservatives; in metal cleaning agent; in the manufacture of photographic film; hydraulic brake fluid, it is usually mixed with castor oil the same amount.
